Odalisque (Audrey Baldwin, after Guerrilla Girls) 2016
560mm x 1070mm
Archival pigment print 1/3

Re-imagining well-known artworks from the historical canon, Julia combines performance with painting and sculpture, captured in a singular photographic moment. She has a BFA from Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland, 2007 and a MFA from Monash University, Melbourne, 2011. While in Australia, she was a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize 2011 and 2012. Arriving in Christchurch post-quake, she has lectured at the Ilam School of Fine Arts and exhibits regularly, including Lyttelton Redux, currently on display at Canterbury Museum.

This portrait of Audrey Baldwin is homage to the Guerrilla Girls’ stated mission in 1989 to use “facts, humour, and outrageous visuals [to expose] sexism, racism, and corruption in politics, art, film, and pop culture.”
