Mark Catley

Sign o’ the Times, 2016
Stand available (extra $50)
Editions of 40 signed by the artist

Mark Catley’s Sign o’ the Times 2016 provided a static riot of street signs bearing subversive slogans within the bustle of Re:START mall during SCAPE Season 2016. Now they're available in small size limited editions. Brilliant fun for a present or home. Great way to have a giggle in the office working out who fits which sign best?!

Signs show us our way forward, prevent us from falling into hazards and can stop us from progress. The Cashel Street Re:START Mall was a beacon of hope following the Christchurch earthquakes. A sign to Christchurch, New Zealand and to the rest of the world that our city can come back from disaster.

Re:ACTIVATE is the SCAPE Public Art Development programme for emerging artists Mark’s work was part of that programme in 2016.

Artist Bio

Mark Catley is a graphic artist from Christchurch, New Zealand. Mark has always been drawn to art and design through his love of pop culture. He finally took the plunge to become a mature student in 2011 (the Christchurch earthquakes helped the decision) and has since started his own design business, Mark Catley Design. Mark also started to make street art after the Christchurch earthquakes. Mark says, “I wanted to give something back to the city after we all lost so much. I like to surprise viewers with my art and provide some joy in the damaged inner city.”
