The chromatic symbolism of the Kōwhiti series of works reflects Māori cosmological evolution, utilising latticework patterns and narratives from tribal houses. The configuration of neons and reflective surfaces takes inspiration from the Te Ao Marama narrative of light emerging from the darkness; enlightenment displacing ignorance.

Robert’s work was recently featured as part of Toi Tū Toi Ora: Contemporary Māori Art Exhibition at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
