Each year we receive hundreds of applications to our Re:ACTIVATE Aspiring Artists competition, here are some of the entries and winning designs from previous years.
RE:ACTIVATE Aspiring Artists 2021 winning designs
Entrants responded to SCAPE Public Art Season 2021 theme, Shadows Cast, which explored the lasting impact of certain fading histories and the possibilities for different histories to overlap and overwrite. The two winning entries were produced and installed at Hagley Park, near the Armagh Street bridge entrance. We celebrated our young artists achievements during our SCAPE Public Art Season 2021 opening weekend, 19-21 November 2021, and the artworks were on display throughout the SCAPE Season into the New Year.

In the sixth year SCAPE has partnered with Lewis Bradford Consulting Engineers to bring talented new voices to our city. “Every year we are impressed by the creativity and energy of the submissions received from the young people of Christchurch,” says Lewis Bradford Consulting Engineers Director Helen Trappitt.
We look forward to seeing these delightful works come to life and would like to thank the Christchurch City Council, Signtech, ENI Engineering, Fulton Hogan and Elizabeth Ball Charitable Trust for their ongoing support to the programme.
RE:ACTIVATE Aspiring Artists 2020
With a new digital resource and outreach to our young ones in lockdown, SCAPE Public Art’s 2020 Re:ACTIVATE Aspiring Artists competition had three winning designs that were exhibited in central Christchurch. The students had their artworks produced and installed at Hack Circle, on the corner of Cashel and High streets, as part of Season 2020.
Re:ACTIVATE is a programme that promotes the creative arts by mentoring aspiring artists. 2020 was the fifth year SCAPE has partnered with Lewis Bradford Consulting Engineers to bring this programme to the city, with support from Christchurch City Council, Christchurch City Libraries and Christchurch Creative Communities.
