Nichola Shanley was born in Waimana and received a Bachelor of Visual Art from the Auckland
University of Technology in 1995. Nichola works from her home in Lyttelton and is represented by Brett
McDowell Gallery, Dunedin.
Nichola’s cross-disciplinary work is often domestic in scale, purpose and materials – silk
paintings, lights, ceramics – becoming household vessels for the lore surrounding her practice. She is a
world maker calling upon the sacred and the profane, pagan and Catholic motifs and universal
mythology.
