Wayne Youle (Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Whakaeke, Ngāti Pākehā) works across traditional media, including painting, sculpture, photography and print-making, seeking to forge connections between each and the various processes and strategies associated with design and popular culture. Youle’s work looks to communicate directly with its audience, engaging us in open dialogue around a range of social and cultural issues, in particular Māori/Pākehā relationships.

Wayne Youle received a Bachelor of Design from Wellington Polytechnic School of Design in 1999. He has exhibited extensively in New Zealand as well as internationally, with major public gallery solo exhibitions at Tauranga Art Gallery Toi Tauranga in 2013, City Gallery Wellington in 2012 and Pataka, Porirua in 2010. His work has been included in the group exhibitions, If you were to live here, 5th Auckland Triennial, 2013; Plastic Maori, The Dowse, Lower Hutt, 2009; Winners are Grinners, Perth Institute for Contemporary Arts, 2007; Pasifika Styles, University of Cambridge, 2006, and Hei Tiki, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, 2005. His public mural work, I seem to have temporarily misplaced my sense of humour, was produced by Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu and Gap Filler in 2011. Youle was recipient of the SCAPE/Artspace Christchurch Artist Residency at Artspace Visual Arts Centre, Sydney. Wayne Youle is represented by Suite Gallery Wellington.
