Diminish and Ascend by David McCracken for SCAPE Public Art Season 2016
The vertiginous Diminish and Ascend has previously drawn great attention at Sculpture by the Sea, Sydney and Sculpture on the Gulf on Waiheke Island. Located in Kiosk Lake within the Botanic Gardens, the illusion of a staircase to the sky rising out of the lake took on its own resonance. McCracken is a highly skilled maker, specialising in working with metal, pushing its capabilities to realise formally sophisticated and tactile works.
