Encircling Re:PRESENTED by Michel de Broin for SCAPE Public Art Season 2018

This work first appeared in North Hagley Park as part of Don’t Misbehave!: SCAPE 2006 Biennial of Art in Public Space, curated by Natasha Conland and Susanne Jaschko.

Situated on the corner of Cambridge and Hereford Streets, adjacent to newly redeveloped urban office, shopping and hospitality zones, the work’s never-ending wonky circuit was seen as a ‘road to nowhere’: a surreal, condensed space for time trials or races, or as commentary on the more absurd qualities of life in a rapidly changing central city, where urban design and city planning aspire to re-activate spaces that were decimated during the quakes and their aftermath.
