ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Idle_FLUX is made from PVC plastic that has been hand-woven by the artist, over 12 weeks of construction time.

Speaking about the work, Courtney Spargo says: After researching how the riverbed was occupied through fishing, my installation comes from an interest in exploring the laborious craftsmanship associated with creating the means to do so.

Using weaving techniques to create a kupunas kupenga (fishing net), my design takes its form from the flow of the Ōtākaro/Avon River within the Christchurch Central Business District.
