Two impressive sculptures forged from metal by Auckland-based artist Anton Parsons, Myopia and Acquiesce, were in residence at the Christ’s College Quadrangle. Myopia explored ideas about distance (both physical and metaphorical) and perceptions of the world depending on where you see things from. The aluminium rounds were spaced out in braille to spell ‘myopia’ and ‘hyperopia’. These terms are often used to describe conditions of sight (myopia – short-sighted, hyperopia – long-sighted), and the work invited us to consider different ways to perceive the world.
