Description
The fire-red Siren by New Zealand artist Gill Gatfield, catches the eye, reflecting the viewer and the world outside. Through title, colour and dynamic properties, this glass figure allures and warns. Like an exclamation mark, Siren re-infuses the spirit figure with power and voice. At eye-height, the I/One figure holds the viewer’s gaze in a one-to-one exchange. In Gatfield’s solo exhibition in Berlin, presented by the Kunstverein am Rosa Luxemburg Platz, another edition of Siren seduces the audience. The piece reveals itself in the form of an elongated ‘I’, red, crisp, bright. She stands as an Island, a siren who sings without sound and charms the eye, guarding our origin and destination coordinates.
