This is one of a limited edition of prints at A2 size (unframed) from Synthia Bahati’s photographic portrait D6NIEL. Created especially for SCAPE Season 2023, a larger-than-life version of this portrait continues to inhabit a wall of Christchurch Casino for most of 2024.
Bahati is part of the African diaspora in Tāmaki Makaurau, and in this portrait, she applies techniques and styles from fashion photography to emphasise Black emancipation, joy and beauty. The model in this photo shoot is a member of Bahati’s own community.
